Eternity 11 - Prayers That Work - Praying According To His Will

(1 John 5:14-15 NASB) And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. {15} And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

God wants His will done on earth as it is done in Heaven. God wants His kingdom to come and His will to be done. God wants the lost saved, the sick healed, the broken restored, the oppressed rescued , the poor given justice and righteousness and goodness and love and truth to reign upon the earth. One of the main ways He has of bringing this to pass is through prayer.

Because God is committed to seeing His will done we can have great confidence when we ask Him, in prayer, for His will to come to pass.

God is like a King upon his throne. In fact the throne is the administrative center of Heaven. It is to this throne of grace we come when we pray.

(Hebrews 4:16 NASB) Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need."

Jesus has died so that you might have access to the throne of God and bold confidence before Him. Live in what God has purchased for you!

In Hebrews and 1 John we find the word "confidence". We can be confident before the throne of God. We can be confident of grace and of answered prayer when we pray according to His will. God wants us to be strong and confident and bold and courageous in prayer. He wants us to be like the persistent widow that harassed the judge or the importunate Syrophoenician woman whose daughter had a demon. God wants confident believers who will dare to rule the world with Him.

God wants people who will take Him at His word when He says "whatever you ask for". Jesus constantly says "whatever.." for example after the incident with the fig-tee:

(Matthew 21:21-22 NASB) And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you shall not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it shall happen. {22} "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."

God wants you to have confidence. He wants you to believe that He hears you. He wants you to be part of bringing His Kingdom in through prayer. God wants you to pray with bold authority for Kingdom objectives.

Jesus told his disciples to speak powerfully and boldly as if they were in charge of the situation: "say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it shall happen.". He wants us to act as powerful people, confident of a powerful God.

We see this again at the healing of the lame man by Peter and John (Acts 3:6 NASB) But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene-- walk!". I challenge you to search the New Testament and find any effective prayer that was diffident, timid and uncertain.

The bulk of powerful New Testament praying is praying with command-like authority "Lazarus come forth". "Little girl arise", "Be still" or in Acts "Receive the Holy Spirit" "Rise up and walk" and so forth.etc.

New Testament prayer is confident prayer and authoritative prayer based on the will of God being done here on earth. At times such prayer can almost sound bombastic - because we pray not in our human capacity but in God's capacity.

Pray confident and bold prayers for Kingdom purposes and know for certain that God hears you and that you have what you asked for! Ask God now for the faith to pray this way! Pray prayers that work! Prayers from Scripture, prayers in line with His will!

Blessings,

John Edmiston
